Since 2009, Commonwealth Food Import Compliance Agreements have been available to suitably accredited Australian food importers to enable agreement participants an alternate system to the mandatory Commonwealth Imported Foods Inspection Scheme [IFIS]. It should be noted that FICA are managed exclusively within the Imported Food Control Act 1992 and are distinct from the BIOSECURITY Act 2015 and the related inspection processes.
With the successful attainment and implementation of this self-managed food import contract, eligible food importers can achieve significant benefits towards streamlining their imported foods obligations in accordance with the governing Australian food standards requirements and codes.
